Helping tell the story of Seattle’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and the City’s transparent, responsible, and equitable spending of federal funding
The City of Seattle’s Innovation and Performance team contacted us with a unique challenge. Design an easy-to-read, accessible public digital report that provides a high-level look at how the City has spent federal American Rescue Plan Act grant funds and tells the story of the impact and value the City’s Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund dollars have brought to the community. And deliver it in a month.
To meet this aggressive timeline and deliver a report that met grant reporting guidelines but was also accessible and interesting enough for city residents to enjoy, we focused on developing a visual style that was colorful, easy to scan and image driven. Working with city staff, we developed a vibrant color scheme based off the City of Seattle’s brand colors. Anchoring the report in the City’s primary blue color, we developed vibrant colors and icons for the primary investment areas. We also relied on real images sourced from city departments, grant recipients, and local photographer Tim Durkan who generously donated the use of his photos.
